The official announcement will come late this afternoon but there are reports that the hospital in Lachine will remain under the jurisdiction of the MUHC.

The news expected to come from the health minister at a news conference at 5 p.m. according to La Presse.

Dr. Paul Saba, president of the council of physicians at the Lachine hospital, says this is good news and puts an end to a lot of the uncertainty.

"There is no question that we don't need to live under uncertainty," he says, "from this respect this is good news. But we also have to make sure that we have enough money to operate on a day-to-day basis."

The health minister's intentions to transfer the MUHC to the local health and social services network in Lachine-Dorval came to light in January and were met with a lot of opposition.

A committee, Save the Lachine Hospita,l was formed and led by Lachine borough mayor Claude Dauphin and Dorval mayor Edgar Rouleau. A petition against the move collected close to 12,000 signatures.
