Should Ouellet be candidate for papacy?

People who suffered abuse at the hands of Catholic priests are split on whether Quebec's Marc Cardinal Ouellet should be a candidate to replace Pope Benedict.

One victims group based here in Quebec is siding with the American group SNAP. It has put Ouellet on a list of a dozen Cardinals it feels are unfit to be Pope because of their handling of clergy abuse cases.

But another Quebec based group, the Association of Victims of Priests, ardently hopes that Ouellet does become Pope - so it can unmask him as contemptuous of abuse victims. The association says the Cardinal never met with victims, leaving them feeling detested.

Ouellet's office is contesting that claim, saying the Cardinal did meet with victims and their relatives but always behind closed doors to ensure privacy.

As a devout Catholic I do not want this man to represent our faith. He had ZERO tolerance for the sexual abused victims and for this reason he should not even be a contender.
    That's my two cents.

You would hope there is someone within the college of cardinals who could be a pope with integrity, who will start to take immediate actions to stop this abuse. Yet with that in mind, since all of these cardinals were promoted by the last 2 popes, we have our doubts.

The sex abuse and cover up within the church hierarchy is still going on to this day, even in the USA. Cardinals and bishops are still covering up sex crimes against kids, they are still not removing predator clergy, and they still are not reporting to the police. Their so called "zero tolerance" policy is not being followed by the bishops who created it. They don't have to, because there is no punishment to force the bishops to change their ways of protecting their image and the institution rather than protecting innocent kids.

It is so sad that more kids may have to be sexually abused before any of these church officials are held responsible. Many of the church officials need to spend some time behind bars for any real change to happen. They still think they can get away with it even to this day. Victims are very upset and frustrated, because they are being ignored and intimidated, and they fear other children will be dealt the life sentence of being sexually abused as they have.

Silence is not an option anymore.

What difference in the end whether Card. Ouellet is elected or not. Chances are whoever is elected Pope will have EXACTLY the same outlook or conservative stance that Lord Ouellet has. If SNAP wants to select who or who is not eligible to be elected Pope, they will have to use a mighty wide brush. In the end SNAP's pronouncements will have ZERO effect or influence on who the College of Cardinals ultimately select.
