Ex-captain of the Montreal Canadiens Vincent Damphousse and his estranged wife are said to be studying a settlement offer from the crown in a criminal case where each is accusing the other of assault.

The crown made the announcement at the Montreal courthouse this morning. Neither party was present but they were represented by their lawyers.

Damphousse is charged with six counts of assaulting Henderson on different dates between January 2008 and March 2011. Henderson is accused of assaulting Damphousse with a weapon and stealing his briefcase in March 2011.

The crown said they are combining the files to streamline things. The case is back in court at the end of next month when they should announce where they'll go from there.
