Luigi Coretti back behind bars
Another night in jail for Luigi Coretti.
The crown is opposing bail for the ex-boss of the security firm BCIA and friend of ex-Liberal MNA Tony Tomassi. Coretti is charged with breaching bail conditions. He was arrested by the SQ this morning in Laval.
Coretti was charged with fraud, creating false documents and making false declarations in connection with defrauding banks during a five year period starting in 2005. He was released on bail last summer and ordered not to contact certain potential witnesses.
Now he's accused of doing just that and his lawyer Jeffrey Boro said it complicates things since they haven't even started his client's main case which may take a year or more to get before the courts.
"For my client to have to sit in jail waiting to attempt to prove his innocence is going to be quite onerous," Boro told reporters.
Boro said before his client's arrest, they were going to ask to modify the bail conditions, including being able to contact certain people like the lawyer in question. Coretti is accused of violating his bail conditions by contacting Steven Roch between June 26, 2012 and February 15, 2013.
Coretti made headlines when it was revealed his company provided a credit card to Tomassi who has since quit politics amid the controversy.
