Laval police have made an arrest in the city's first murder of the year.

A 19-year old man was apprehended Sunday afternoon.

He's expected to make a court appearance Monday, probably on a charge of first-degree murder.

An overnight arguement at a restaurant on Cure Labelle in the Chomedey district, identified as Bab El Hara, led to the stabbing of a young man.

"What seems to be a verbal dispute inside, it was transferred outside and at one point the suspect stabbed our victim. Our victim, he's a 28-year old male", Laval police constable Franco Di Genova told CJAD News.

The vicitim died a few hours after he was taken to hospital.

It's not clear what the connection between the victim and the suspect is.
