Labeaume blasts "mean" bill 14
Quebec city's mayor Regis Labeaume is launching a scathing attack against a section of the PQ's language bill.
"They're going to laugh at us," says Labeaume, adding that the section of the bill that will ban Francophone military families from attending English school will taint Quebec's image.
He would not comment on the other parts of the bill.
But, he says it is "completely useless" to change the law for the mere 700 students who benefit from the exception. Labeaume also says bill 14 would mean attendance in the English Central Quebec School Board would drop by 20 percent.
"The Anglophone community, we should defend them like anybody else in Quebec," says Labeaume.
He says Quebec city Anglophones help the city "I think the least we can do is to try to help them too."
