'Sistine Seagull' an unlikely web celebrity
A lone seagull perched atop the chimney at the Sistine Chapel has become an unlikely Internet celebrity, in a world filled with unlikely Internet celebrities.
Inside, of course, cardinals are busy picking the next pope, and their success or failure is being indicated by either white or black smoke spewing out of that chimney.
Right now, millions around the world are focused on the chimney, waiting for smoke to come out. So far, after three votes, those millions have only seen black smoke, indicating that no pope has been selected.
But for a good part of today, the bird has settled atop the chimney, for minutes on end, before flying away, and returning.
He now has a Twitter account, @SistineSeagull, with 2,700 followers and counting.
His Twitter blurb reads, "Hanging out at Conclave. Loving Life. And Cheetos."
And among some of his tweets: "I would take a Frito Lay sponsorship in a mockingbird's heartbeat. GULLS LOVE CHEETOS." and "Fave 80's band: Flock of Seagulls. Also fave haircut."
A Facebook account created early this afternoon has garnered 71 Likes in just a half an hour.
Meanwhile, another Twitter account, @ConclaveChimney, has more than 9,000 followers.
