Hydro rates increase April 1st

Electricity rates are going up by 2.4 per cent April 1st, but it could have been worse.

When making its rate application last summer Hydro Quebec had asked for a 2.9 per cent increase and then bumped it up to 3.4 per cent in December on orders from the Marois government, which had passed a decree demanding more profit from the utility.

But in it's ruling yesterday the Quebec Energy Board ignored the decree saying it was only obliged to consider the original application, because the budget process has not been finalized.

The rate increase next month will add about 30-dollars to the average homeowners electricity bill.

This is another corruption in our lovely province.. A government owned and these prices should be going down not up..Where are the profits going? Look at the Casino in Montreal, in USA the monies go into schools..The kids wouldn't be marching in the streets if the government look after the people...Look at the hospitals and the way it's manage...Look at our pothole streets and we know the $ never reached the streets. What is wrong with this province that have Big Big problems of corruption and they bicker about speaking english or french or any other language..Stay here and you know you will have no monies left to retire....
