The West Island Health and Social Services Center is holding a recruitment day today at the Lakeshore General Hospital.

It starts at 10 this morning and goes until four in the afternoon.

Officials say although the open house is taking place at the hospital, the employement drive applies to all its facitlies, including the Pierrefonds CLSC and the Lac-Saint-Louis CLSC.

"There's nurses we're looking for, administrative agents, nursing assistants, social workers, occupational therapists, so there's a lot of professionals, and housekeeping attendants, so all kind of openings", says Diane Dufrescne, Human Resources director.

Potential employees can submit thier resumés and may even be interviewed on site.

This hospital is not good enough for my dog let alone human beings. I was there with my brother in law at 3am Monday past, the nurse assigned to him DID NOTHING but type in her computer from 3am till 620am. When my brother in law PASSED OUT from the pain and I begged her for help, she took a towel whipped it at me and told me "Wet it and take care of him I don't have the time". At 615am I walked to the FRONT of the emergency nurse section (she was in the back - old lady - white hair - no name tag (wonder why)) - I asked a nice young nurse for help. She came took his vitals, blood work and the Dr. gave him painkillers over 4 1/2 hours later. The nurse that actually took the time to check up on my brother-in-law went to the "cannot-be-bothered" nurse and told her "This is unacceptable" but it just rolled off her. She is old and she could care less. Time for retirement I say.
It got from bad to worst. He was in there for 5 days, one nurse forgot to give him anti-biotics prescibed by surgeon till 6 hours later, the same nurse forgot to run scans that were ordered, etc etc. She could not be bothered when we rang the bell. I understand the nurses are pulling long shifts - I saw it - but have some bedside manners and common courtesey. For example, if a patient is ENGLISH then for Pete Sakes speak to them in ENGLISh. My brother in law was taken care of by a number of nuses (3 of which pulled a double shift or 16 hours instead of 12) - they all worked the same amount of time yet one came in with a miserable chip on her shoulder - the rest were dolls. If you are English and wish to be served in your language, do not bother going here. WE had no choice since the ambulance picked us up Monday dawn. If you do have a choice, KEEP DRIVING.
