Float plane crash in BC; two dead
A float plane carrying six people crashed in a remote area of Vancouver Island, killing two people and leaving two others injured.
The Air Nootka plane with five passengers and a pilot left Hesquiaht Lake, about 85 kilometres northwest of Tofino, on Friday morning, but disappeared minutes after takeoff.
The plane's wreckage was later discovered just north of the lake, and the Transportation Safety Board confirmed two people are dead.
The agency's Bill Yearwood says of the four survivors, two were injured and two escaped unharmed.
The Victoria Joint Rescue Co-Ordination Centre says the passengers are believed to a group of hikers.
Air Nootka declined to comment until more information is available.
