Ste. Catherine St. sinkhole fixed by next week?
There still is no firm timetable for the reopening of a stretch of Ste. Catherine street, after that giant sinkhole opened up near Guy St. two weeks ago.
A spokesperson for the Ville-Marie borough says work to stabilize the ground around where the hole opened up is already done, and work on the underground pipes still needs to be finalized before the stretch of street can be covered over and reopened to traffic.
That work is expected to take at least another week.
At around 9 a.m. on the morning of Aug. 5, a sinkhole opened up on Ste. Catherine St. near Guy St., large enough to nearly consume a large front-end loader.
A larger trench going up the street was dug up so that repair work on the pipes can carry on.
