US judge approves extradition to Canada for Montreal murder suspect
A U.S. judge has ordered the extradition of a murder suspect who was on Canada's list of the 10 most wanted fugitives.
Dieuseul Jean is accused in Montreal of beating and stabbing his girlfriend, Juthlande Pierre, after attending a party with her on Christmas Day 1995.
Pierre's body was found under a pile of carpets in the basement of her apartment three weeks later. Evidence suggested she'd ben stabbed several times in the head.
The Record newspaper reports Jean had bought a one-way bus ticket to New Jersey. Authorities finally tracked him down.
He had been living under the assumed name ``Jean Gardy Mentor.''
Prosecutors say Jean was caught after he applied to obtain U.S. citizenship under his alias and his fingerprints matched those of the suspect on file with Interpol.
