Transport Quebec says Met is fine
Transport Quebec says not to worry: you can drive on the elevated Metropolitan without fear.
The Transport Ministry is responding to the latest news story about the advanced decrepitude of some of our road infrastructure: chunks of concrete that have fallen from pillars and from the underside of portions of the elevated Metropolitan, rusted rebars visible through cracks and holes in the concrete structure.
Transport Quebec officials admit they don't make for pretty pictures, but says things aren't as bad as they might appear.
Recent engineering reports prepared for the transport ministry indicate that of the 51 structures making up the elevated portion of the Met, 35 need repairs and that some require "major" work.
Transport Quebec's Mario Saint-Pierre says "major", in this case, doesn't mean "urgent", and that the Met is being maintained on schedule.
