St. Rémi mayor removed from office
The mayor of St. Rémi, on the South Shore, has been relieved of his duties.
Quebec Superior Court suspended Michel Lavoie today because of the fraud charges laid against him several months ago.
Lavoie is the first mayor to be suspended as a result of the law that prevents an elected official from sitting while facing charges that could lead to two or more years in prison.
