PCB scare leads to daycare directive
After the illegal PCB stash in Pointe Claire started making headlines this week and the province realized how close it was to institutions such as daycare centres, the Family Minister contacted daycares to advise them to update their emergency plans.
The e-mailed directive says each centre should establish an evacuation refuge at least several kilometres away so the children can be quickly moved away from any toxic fire nearby.
L'Academie des Petites Mains daycare is about ten minutes away from the PCB dump on Hymas Boulevard and it received the e-mail. Co-owner Ariel Dunn says she appreciates receiving it but feels a warning about the dump beforehand would have been better.
