Quebec's tax sleuths track down $3.5 billion
The investigators with sharp pencils who track down tax cheats in Quebec are coming off a banner year.
They helped the province recuperate nearly 3.5 billion dollars in evaded taxes during 2012 - 2013. That's an increase of six-percent over the previous year.
Revenue Quebec says it is making the most headway against tax evasion in the construction sector and the restaurant business.
The ministry started beefing up its investigation branch several years ago, gradually hiring an additional 1100 employees.
