11 arrests in south shore drug raids
Police on the south shore have rounded up 11 people in connection with what they believe is a drug ring that manufactured synthetic pills for the Montreal market.
The suspects are nine men and two women who were picked up late last night and early this morning during raids in the towns of Napierville, St. Denis, McMasterville and St. Basile.
Police also seized a firearm, a Taser gun, and drugs in varying amounts — cocaine, ketamine, marijuana and pills.
Montreal police say the operation actually began last night when they arrested three people suspected of dealing drugs in the parking lot of the Place Versailles shopping mall in the city's east end.
At one point, the car the three suspects were in tried to take a run at officers, and shots were fired. No one was hurt, and all three were eventually taken into custody.
