Centralized daycare list coming
The Quebec government is ready to move on the question of child daycare waiting lists with firm plans for a single unified daycare database.
Right now, it's chaos for Quebec parents hunting for a daycare spot. Each region, municipality and, in many cases, individual daycares have their own waiting lists. Worse still, some daycares don't keep a list at all.
Things are going to change, says Quebec Family Minister Nicole Leger. She has announced that all the lists that currently exist, regionally, locally and in individual daycares will be brought into a single province-wide database. Any daycare receiving government money, whether a public daycare or a subsidized private daycare, will have to register for the list.
Finally, the Minister warns ou won't be able to get around the list - there'll be no favourites and no queue-jumping, says Leger.
The minister says the centralized daycare list will be ready for roll-out next June.
