No more new drive-thrus in CDN-NDG
The borough of Côte-des-Neiges-NDG has adopted a draft bylaw aimed at banning new drive-thru services in their territory.
The borough says it has three goals in mind: to favour walking and public transportation instead of driving, to fight so-called heat islands created by asphalt surfaces and car pollution and to promote healthy living and eating
It's going to hold a public consultation and if everything goes as planned, the bylaw should be adopted in November.
Existing drive-thrus would not be included in this bylaw.
This is all part of the borough's healthy living policy started about three years ago.
The borough already adopted a policy banning junk food and trans-fats from vending machines and snack counters in municipal facilities.
It's also encouraging restaurants in its borough to ban trans-fats from their menus, though they are not legally bound to do so.
