Scabies outbreak at long term care home
A long term care home on the South Shore is in the midst of a scabies outbreak. A dozen residents are now infected along with three employees at the centre in St. Catherine.
Scabies is caused by a tiny parasite that is spread around by body contact and contaminated items such as furniture and bedding.
Residents say their rooms have been stripped right down to the drapes so everything can be cleaned. A head-to-toe treatment with a special cream has been given to dozens of people.
