Petitions against values charter
Opponents of the proposed Charter of Quebec Values have taken the web and social media by storm.
No less than three separate petitions are now making the rounds online.
The largest one can be found on a site called quebecinclusif.org, a collective which brings together people from the legal, philosophical and journalistic professions, as well as both federalists and sovereignist Quebecers. An accompanying manifesto denounces the charter as exclusionary, inconsistent, and unnecessary.
In the roughly 24 hours since the manifesto and petition have been put online, more than 4,500 have signed on.
There are also petitions on Change.org., and ipetitions.com. Both have a few hundred signatures each.
Meanwhile, as of 3 p.m. Thursday, close to 5,000 people on Facebook have said they will be attending a rally against the charter on Saturday afternoon at Place Emilie-Gamelin, organized by an anti-Islamophobia group.
