RCMP arrest alleged fraudster in Beaconsfield
The RCMP confirm they've arrested a 29-year-old man at a Beaconsfield motel, who's wanted in California for fraud.
The arrest of Daniel Marcotte happened on Sept. 10 at the Chalets Beaconsfield Motel.
Police in the California town of Seal Beach, south of Los Angeles, say he used the 'Grandma I'm in Jail' phone scam to bilk at least six seniors out of more than $100,000.
Marcotte, who is a Quebecer, had apparently been hiding out in the Montreal area for several months. The Mounties are crediting vigilant West Islanders for his capture.
He's now in detention somewhere on the island of Montreal, awaiting extradition to the United States.
