"Freeman" in Calgary is former Montrealer
The "Freeman on the Land" who has declared his rented home in Calgary an embassy for the sovereign citizen movement is a Montrealer wanted by police here for running out on an assault trial.
The man known in Calgary as Andreas Pirelli is actually 48-year old Mario Antonacci. He was charged here with assaulting a woman who lent him and his wife an apartment when they found themselves homeless in 2007. The woman was thrown down a flight of steps and suffered broken bones.
Antonacci disappeared before the end of his trial on aggravated assault charges.
The Crown is now talking to police about his presence in Calgary. There, a landlord has been struggling to evict the man after her agreement with him soured and she discovered he'd gutted the duplex unit and changed the locks. . He is ignoring an eviction order issued by a court in Calgary earlier this month.
