Expensive discounts at SAQ
Here's a buyer beware story that has probably affected most Quebecers at some point.
La Presse reports those discounts being offered by the SAQ on wine and spirits are no deal at all.
Despite promotional campaigns that cost the SAQ up to $300-million dollars a year, the Crown company continues to turn profits because the cost of the discount is offset by price increases from suppliers who don't want to absorb the loss either.
In the end, the paper says , we're being offered a discount on overpriced booze.
Producers say they have no option but to go along with the discount programmes, for fear of being delisted by the SAQ.
They say such practices would not be happening if the sale of alcohol was privatized.
