UPDATE: 'Freeman on the Land' arrested in Calgary
The former Montrealer who declared himself a Freeman on the Land in Calgary is not free this morning.
He was arrested overnight, on a warrant issued here in Quebec.
In Calgary, he goes by the name of Andreas Pirelli but here is is known as Mario Antonacci and he is wanted in connection with an aggravated assault case in 2007.
He left Quebec in the middle of his trial in 2010. He was accused of pushing his landlady down a flight of stairs.
In Calgary, Antonacci became known as a proponent of the sovereign citizen movement and ran into trouble with his landlady there when he declared his apartment the movement's embassy and changed the locks.
Antonacci is expected to remain in custody in Alberta for about a week while his transfer to Quebec is arranged. Montreal police told CJAD that he may be returned to Montreal "in a short manner of time," possibly early next week.
