Doctor's letter denouncing PQ's charter goes viral
An open letter by the Pediatrician-in-Chief at the MUHC, denouncing the PQ's proposed charter of values, has gone viral. The letter urges colleagues to participate in an on-the-job protest.
In his letter, Dr. Michael Shevell, invites MUHC employees to come to work on a pre-determined day wearing one of the religious symbols that the charter would ban.
“I just couldn’t stay silent,” Dr. Shevell, Chair of the Pediatrics Department at the McGill Faculty of Medicine and the Pediatrician-in-Chief at the Montreal Children's Hospital and MUHC, told CJAD.
“The charter goes against what we stand for, members of my department come from all walks of life, all ethnic groups, all religions, and it’s deplorable to hear that some of them would have their rights to express themselves limited.”
Dr. Shevell sent the letter to his department via a weekly newsletter. It has since gone viral and an overwhelming amount of people want to participate.
The date for the protest has not yet been determined, but Dr. Shevell says it will happen in the near future.
