No investigation into possible illegal donations
The Liberals are calling for an investigation into possible illegal donations during André Boisclair's 2007 election bid - even though thestatute of limitations has passed.
A new book written by two former heads of FTQ construction says that the union provided the Parti Quebecois with legal services, phone lines, people to answer them, and help putting up campaign posters, all with André Boisclair's personal blessing.
In Quebec, it's illegal not only for organizations to donate money, but also goods and services.
"if it's true, it's an illegal contribution to an election," says the Liberal's Robert Dutil.
A lot of investigations
The Liberals want the electoral office to investigate, even though a five-year statute of limitations means the six-year-old case can not result in any charges.
"An investigation can reveal the truth," says Dutil. "If they can not prosecute them, that's not a reason to not have the truth."
But, spokesperson Denis Dion says the elections office will concentrate its energy on cases they can lead to convictions.
"God knows there are a lot of investigations to do."
