Revenue Quebec recalls duplicate welfare cheques
The Quebec government says it erred in sending out duplicate welfare cheques for the month of October, and they're asking recipients to give one back.
Because of poor quality, the original cheques had to be reprinted.
Revenue Quebec doesn't know how many duplicate cheques were sent by mistake, and why the first ones weren't destroyed as ordered.
But the 450,000 beneficiaries or 15% who get their money by cheque means that more than 60,000 people could be affected.
The ministry calls the incident an " unfortunate operational error".
Welfare recipients can drop off their duplicate cheque at government employment centres.
