Mourani: referendum needed on values charter
The MP booted out of the Bloc Quebecois caucus for criticizing the Charter of Quebec Values is now calling for a referendum on the proposed legislation.
In a letter to La Presse, Maria Mourani says every Quebecer should have a chance to vote on what she feels is an attack on freedom of expression.
The charter would stop government workers from wearing religious symbols on the job.
Mourani maintains that public opinion surveys and Facebook postings aren't enough to sound out the population on the question - only a referendum will do.
