Yet another system-wide Metro shutdown this morning
All four lines of Montreal's metro system ground to a halt at the height of the morning rush hour, once again leaving thousands of commuters cursing under their breaths — and in some cases, over them.
The problem this time, according to STM spokesperson Amélie Régis, was a malfunction with the ventilation system, which forced the STM to shut the entire metro system down at around 8:45 a.m. as a precaution.
"We could have kept the trains rolling, but we decided to stop them out of respect for our security regulations," she said.
The problem was fixed about a half an hour later.
The metro system has been plagued with frequent — and in many cases, ill-timed — shutdowns in the past year or so, most of which have been blamed on new software installed in its control room.
