Is Applebaum in deeper trouble?
It seems the investigation into former Montreal mayor Michael Applebaum's supposed wrongdoing is wider than first thought.
A report suggests the UPAC squad in looking into no less than 10 real estate projects in Applebaum's Cote des Neiges-NDG borough, as well as a number of zoning changes.
He was initially arrested and charged based on his alleged involvement with two land deals while he served as the borough's mayor.
Among the projects anti-corruption officers are looking at — the building of the MUHC superhospital. The others include the NDG sports centre, a public pool, and condo projects.
Russell Copeman, who's running for Applebaum's old borough mayor job on Marcel Côté's slate, isn't commenting on the allegations, saying justice needs to take its course.
Members of Côté's Coalition Montreal party aren't commenting either, except to say they have a series of measures in their platform to promote ethics, such as setting up a code of ethics and an ethics commissioner.
