'Freeman' goes off on rant at Montreal court appearance
The Montrealer who earned notoriety in Alberta for being part of the 'Freeman on the Land' movement indulged in some sovereign citizen rambling during a court appearance in Montreal yesterday.
48-year-old Mario Antonacci was transferred here from Calgary this week after a high-profile dispute with his landlady there.
His growing infamy out west drew police attention to outstanding warrants issued here after he he ducked out on two court cases.
During his appearance yesterday, Antonacci claimed to be a spiritual being of the Mikmaq tribal people and an authorized representative of himself.
He also referred to treaties and legal cases dating back centuries.
The court ignored his statements and ordered him held until his next hearing on Monday.
He was wanted back in Montreal for aggravated assault after allegedly pushing her landlady down the stairs.
