Westmount doctor suspended, fined
Quebec's college of physicians has sanctioned a Westmount doctor for twelve counts of misconduct over a 12-month period between 2009 and 2010.
66-year-old Dr. John Backler was suspended for three months and fined $10 000 for practices against the profession's code of ethics.
The college concluded Backler gave priority to patients who were tested at a private lab, a lab in which he has a financial interest.
The college argued the patients were going to the lab before it was determined they needed the tests, before a medical consultation.
