SPCA rescues 88 dogs and cats
The SPCA says it's rescued 88 dogs and cats in two separate operations — and says in both cases the owners freely gave the animals up.
On Sept. 27, 11 huskies were surrendered to the shelter by their owner.
The dogs were used for recreational sled dog activities and spent much of their lives chained to dilapidated dog houses.
The SPCA says the tips of their ears were badly bitten by flies.
And this past Thursday, 77 cats were turned over to the shelter.
The SPCA says the person who turned the cats over started out with good intentions by taking unwanted cats into his home, and went to the SPCA after becoming overwhelmed.
The dogs and cats are now being cared for, and will soon be put up for adoption. The SPCA will let people know when that happens through its web site and Facebook page.
