Strong winds knock power out to thousands
The high winds in southwestern Quebec this afternoon led to the usual spate of tree branches and power lines crashing down.
Since around noon, Hydro-Quebec has been dealing with scattered power outages across the region, particularly south of Montreal, as wind gusts topped out at around 93 km/h, and promoted an Environment Canada wind warning for the Montreal area that was in effect for about an hour.
As of 8 p.m., the utility reports close to 9000 people are without power, most of those affected in the Montérégie region.
The power is expected to be restored to everyone throughout the night.
