Vaillancourt offers to 'help' Laval candidate: report
A report suggests former Laval mayor Gilles Vaillancourt is trying to get involved in the current election campaign.
Vaillancourt, who now faces fraud and gangsterism charges in connection with actions taken during his 23-year reign in office, supposedly phoned Claire LeBel, a current mayoralty candidate and offered to help her "very discreetly".
LeBel, the leader of the Option Laval party and a one-time member of Vaillancourt's now-defunct Parti Pro des Lavallois, says she agreed to meet with him, but recorded the conversation, and handed the conversation over to Radio-Canada. She also says she gave a copy over to anti-corruption police.
LeBel says she believes Vaillancourt was trying to offer her money during that conversation.
