UPDATED: Major water main break this morning
Over 1000 residents are out of water in Côte-des-Neiges because of a major water main break at 4:11 this morning.
Seven families were forced out of their apartments after being woken up by the sound of cascading water filling their homes.
Two of those apartments are severely damaged.
“I woke up to my daughter screaming mommy, mommy, water is coming in,” one of the residents, who’s apartment was damaged,” told CJAD.
“Then, I looked out my window and saw everything was flooded, by that time the water was coming in from my front door, the windows, and down the hallway.”
The 8 inch water main broke at the corner of Barclay and Westbury Avenues. City workers say the repairs won't be complete until at least 4 pm today.
They are investigating the cause of the break but say the change in temperature is probably at the route of the problem.
The pipe had been installed in 1948.
The Red Cross is helping the victims and the borough is distributing water to people in dire need.
Barclay Avenue is closed between Lemieux and Mountain Sights. Westbury is closed between Vezina and Plamondon.
