Election chief confirms Côté's robocalls were illegal
Quebec's director-general of elections now confirms the robocalls that originated with Marcel Côté's team were illegal, because the calls didn't name the party's official agent.
There are no fines or jail time associated with the infraction, but the cost of the calls will not be included in the election expenses that can be reimbursed.
Yesterday, Côté admitted the calls came from his people — calls which deliberately targeted mayoralty rival Richard Bergeron.
They asked residents if they knew Bergeron and his Projet Montreal party were involved in a suspected financing scandal.
