NDG merchants worry about safety
Some merchants in NDG are worried about their neighbourhood's safety.
Last week, a manager at a Subway restaurant on Sherbrooke near Madison had a cup of scalding coffee thrown at him by an enraged customer.
That's just the latest incident at the restaurant, says employee Maya Noureddine. She's only worked there 10 months, but says something out of the ordinary occurs every couple of months.
Two months ago, she was closing up the restaurant by herself when a stranger entered through the back door after closing hours.
"He had a knife and he said give me the money. I screamed like a banshee and he ran away," she says with a laugh.
Other merchants say they too are concerned about petty crime in the neighbourhood. They mention people with mental health problems and others who are clearly intoxicated.
Several people told CJAD the area is a tightly knit community, and the trouble is caused by people who don't live in the area.
