Muslim holiday catches STM by surprise
Transit officials are admitting they were caught by surprise when many of the taxi drivers who work for the MTC's service for handicapped people took yesterday off for a major Muslim religious holiday.
The MTC says it knew nothing about the holiday Eid Al Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice and the lack of driver availability really put a crimp in service.
About 87-percent of adapted transit trips are made by taxi.
There were many delays and some service cancellations yesterday.
