Shocking reply for terminally-ill cancer patient
Quite the shock recently for an anglophone cancer patient at a hospital in Gatineau.
A report says an orderly told 77-year old John Gervais, who had been told he had terminal cancer last week, to speak French.
He had asked his wife to seek help, she did so in English.
The orderly said "don't speak English, we're in Quebec, speak to me in French".
The family complained to the ombudsman of the local health and social services center, but, it seems, nothing came of it.
Said the patient's wife, it's a terrible way to treat a sick person.
The hospital says the worker in question will no longer deal with the family.
The center has launched an investigation.
