Turcot: one lane closed on key westbound ramp
Getting back to the West Island from downtown will be more of a challenge than usual for the next couple of months, if your commute takes you through the Turcot Interchange.
A key access ramp linking the Ville Marie Expressway to westbound highway 20 is down to one lane, instead of two — and will stay that way for two months.
Caroline Larose with Transport Quebec says a routine inspection over the weekend showed some damage to the structure — which will force the transport department to close one lane from the ramp, and bar heavy trucks from using it.
"It's cracks that you find on the infrastructure," Larose says. "The engineers concluded there was a bearing capacity problem."
It's not the first time there have been restrictions placed on that particular ramp. There were months of traffic tie-ups when there was a similar issue with the same ramp in 2011.
