Lac-Mégantic compensation by mid-2014
The U.S. bankruptcy trustee overseeing the insolvent railway involved in last July's deadly explosion in Lac-Mégantic says he hopes to begin distributing ``meaningful'' compensation to victims in mid-2014.
Robert Keach says lawsuits could interfere with the timing but he hopes to at least allocate the $25 million XL Insurance policy next year.
Additional funds could be made available from another policy, claims against other companies and proceeds from the sale of Montreal, Maine & Atlantic Railway.
A runaway MMA train crashed and exploded in downtown Lac-Mégantic in July killing 47 people and destrying much of the downtown core.
