Hanged man may be allowed to live
The Iranian Justice Minister this morning said there is "no need" for a condemned man who survived his own hanging to be hanged again.
The 37-year old man had been convicted of drug trafficking and sentenced to death.
After the execution last week, his family went to the morgue to claim his body, only to find that he was still breathing.
The man was taken to hospital where he is still recovering.
Iran's Justice Minister Mostafa Pourmohammadi says hanging the man again would tarnish Iran's image world-wide.
The final decision on whether to grant clemency rests with the Iranian judiciary.
