St-Leonard man faces human trafficking charges
A 38-year-old St-Leonard man appeared in court Wednesday afternoon for his arraignment on human trafficking charges.
Marius Trifu Miclescu is the latest suspect in an RCMP-led, cross-border investigation dubbe Project Combative.
Miclescu is facing charges of procuring, human trafficking and living on the avails of prostitution.
The Mounties say more charges may be filed.
He said nothing during his brief appearance, and will appear in front of a judge again on Friday, Oct. 25, for a bail hearing.
Police believe he is involved in smuggling young Romanian women into Canada and then placing them in erotic massage parlours for the purposes of sexual exploitation.
Miclescu joins seven other people who have been arrested as part of Project Combative.
They include three people from Toronto, three from Cornwall, Ontario and one from Montreal.
One of the Cornwall-based suspects is being held in the United States.
Police are still looking for 54-year-old Valentin Dumitru, also of St-Leonard.
