Drunk driver released, then hit by car
Friends of a man who was struck and killed by a car after being released from police custody are furious that officers let him leave the station when he was obviously impaired.
46-year old Lyndon Oudit was arrested last Friday after his car went off the road in Saint Lin in the Laurentians.
He failed a breathalyser, was booked, then released on a promise to appear in court at a later date
Officers called him a taxi. Instead of getting in to it, he decided to walk home eventhough he was barefoot and sopping wet, having fallen into a swimming pool before getting into his car that evening.
Less than a kilometre down the road, he was struck by a car whose driver said she just didn't see him in the rain and gloom.
Friends of Oudit say he should have been driven home by police to ensure he arrived safely.
