Incestuous father gets 10 years in prison
A 48-year-old Montreal man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for sexually assaulting and prostituting his daughter who ended up giving birth to his grandson.
Over a period of at least five years, the man raped his 16-year-old daughter repeatedly and forced her into a life of prostitution. She got pregnant with the man's grandson in 2004.
The young woman testified she finally escaped in 2010 after a fight and leaping from a second storey window.
"I was really in shock," crown prosecutor Rachel Pitre told CJAD 800 News, adding this was a sordid, exceptional case that warranted a long sentence.
Judge Claude Parent said mitigating factors were nonexistant, the man's guilty plea only coming after the victim testified. He pleaded guilty to incest, forcible confinement and assault.
"I take this opportunity to highlight the extraordinary courage of the victim to testify in court and her courage to rebuild her life today," Pitre said.
The accused, a tall, imposing man with a receding hairline, said thank you and good day to the judge after sentencing. He will be listed in the sex offender's registry for a period of 20 years. No one can be named to protect the girl's identity.
The victim chose not to be in the courtroom. She broke down in tears and was comforted by her family in a tight group hug in the hallway afterwards.
