UPDATE: Man arrested after suspicious items detected at Trudeau airport
Police confirmed a man in his seventies was arrested today at the Trudeau airport after screening agents noticed suspicious items in his carry-on luggage.
The man's identity is not publicbut police are saying he is known to authorities for unrelated matters.
CATSA, the organization that screens passengers' luggage, detected the item at 5:40 a.m. Sunday and called Montreal police.
A perimeter was set up in the US Terminal of Trudeau International Airport as a precaution.
Investigators were led to an apartment on Airlie in LaSalle. Residents living in the area of a five block radius were evacuated.
Police got a warrant and entered the residence shortly after 8:00 p.m.
Authorities confirm the item inside the luggage was not explosive, but should not have been in an airport.
Montreal police spokesman for Ian Lafreniere told CJAD News the items could have been assembled at a later point in time, but he would not go into further detail.
