LISTEN: Melanie Joly goes on the attack
We haven't really seen any attack ads in the current Montreal municipal election campaign — or for that matter, any real personal attacks at all.
Now, Melanie Joly, running second according to recent polls, has released a pair of sharply-worded radio ads — one in English, one in French — going right after front-runner Denis Coderre, for the final week of the campaign.
The ad opens with the sound of a jackhammer — a reference, of course, to the constant road construction in Montreal. Once it ends, a stern-sounding Joly comes on and says, "wondering what will change in Montreal on Nov. 3? Nothing. Absolutely nothing if we elect Denis Coderre."
Coderre's promises to fight corruption, she says, just aren't believeable.
And she also says she's old enough to know there are no magic solutions to Montreal's problems.
