Being Martine on August 8th

On August 8th, ten minutes before my match, I will be by myself in the zone. For me, it is a special moment where I just need to think about how I want to feel on the mat: I want to be confident. The preparation will be done. I will shake my opponent’s hand, the referee will whistle the beginning of the match, and everything I did over the past year and since I started will hopefully take me as far possible. On the 8th, it will only be me and the other wrestler on the mat; you forget about all the other people. For sure, I will hear the cheering from the stands, but at the same time, all my focus will be on beating my opponent. Read More >>

After London

After London, after my wrestling career as an athlete, I would like to pursue as a coach to give back as much as possible to my sport. I want to give the opportunity to other athletes to achieve good results internationally and maybe even more than I did. For me sport is very important and I want to stay involved in the sport environment. My dream would also be to give the opportunity to all kids to be involved in a sport. I want them to have the chance to live their dreams and accomplish something they never thought they would, one step at a time. Read More >>

Never Alone

If I was able to accomplish everything that I did so far, I need to thank my family who was behind me the entire time. I am also thankful for my coaches who were there since the beginning. They taught me how to wrestle: the techniques, the rules and how to become a great wrestler. I also need to thank my training partners. They help me so much to become better and to achieve my dream. I also have to mention my sponsors: Astral, Saputo and Athletes Can. They have enabled me to have access to more resources to reach my goals and achieve my dream. Without them, it would be much more difficult. Read More >>

To Wrestle With The Canadian Girl

I think my opponents perceive me as a very offensive wrestler, someone who wrestles well both standing and on the mat (“par terre”), who never gives up and is intense until the end. They also probably see me as a very technical, competitive, serious and focused athlete. I think I showed that I am a great wrestler and hope that the other wrestlers see me as a threat. I really hope they fear me! Read More >>

Opponents

In terms of my opponents, I consider all 18 wrestlers that are going to be in my weight class as a threat. A lot of them have a lot of experience and many are world medalists. I need to be confident, focused and ready for every match. For sure, the Japanese girl I lost against at the Beijing Games will be there. She is a multiple gold world medalist and 2-time Olympic gold medalist. If I want to wrestle her at the finals, I will need to beat other wrestlers first. Hence, for me at the Olympics, it’s going to be one match at a time and one point at a time. Read More >>
